2009: Yankee Stadium and Citi Field

The Stadium will be open in April of 2009 and will feature a brand new facade and interior that will resemble the old Yankee Stadium. The dimensions and fences, however, will be the same as the present Stadium. In 1996, an assessment was done on Yankee Stadium and it was estimated that a renovation would cost the Yankees around $770 million dollars, so it made sense for the Yankees to have their new Stadium constructed. If you are wondering why the Mets changed the name of their Stadium and the Yankees haven't, it's because the Mets want more financial help. My friend wanted it to be called Met Life (after Met Life) and was disappointed, as was I, with the name that was selected. Citi Bank will be paying $20 million each year for 20 years to have the Stadium named after them.

Citi Field will cost significantly less than the new Yankee Stadium. Both Stadiums are expected to have less seating than their two present Stadiums but should nonetheless be good for New York and its fans.
