MLB: Gonzalez to Atlanta

Reports have it that Mike Gonzalez of the Pirates has been traded to Atlanta for Adam LaRoche and an unnamed player/prospect. It was, at a time, rumored that Melky Cabrera would have been included in this trade, sending Gonzalez to New York, but those talks died down. Gonzalez would have been a valuable addition to the Yankees bullpen but after the Johnson trade, in which the Yankees acquired Vizcaino, there wasn't as much a dire necessity for the LHP.

Melky Cabrera has been saved for yet another day but may may still remain trade bait if the Yankees were to spot something else of their liking. Cabrera is the Yankees' 4th outfielder and a fan favorite, most remembered for robbing Manny Ramirez of a homerun in the late innings of a close game between the two rivals.
