MLB: Helton Going Nowhere

It was just recently announced by the Rocky Mountain News that the Todd Helton trade talks have ended and he is going nowhere. Judging by Red Sox fan's arguments on various MLB blogs, the deal appeared to have been all but completed. That is what happens when you over-speculate.

"It didn’t work out," said Monfort (Rockies' managing general partner). "When you are taking about a player of Todd Helton’s abilities, you need to get someone back who will be an impact player, and it didn’t work out."

The Red Sox were hoping to come away with a steal on this deal considering Colorado was the one seeking to empty his expensive, long-term contract. Apparently, the package of players wasn't enough to convince them to send Helton to the Evil Empire Redux. This is a win-win for both the Red Sox and the Yankees. The Red Sox do not age themselves even further and tie themselves down with a lengthy contract. The Yankees do not have to see Helton in the near future.
