YANKEES: 2007 Yankees

Here is a good idea of what the Yankees' 25 man roster will look like beginning in 2007 (as of now):

Position Players

  1. Johnny Damon (CF)
  2. Derek Jeter (SS)
  3. Bobby Abreu (LF)
  4. Jason Giambi (DH)
  5. Alex Rodriguez (3B)
  6. Hideki Matsui (LF)
  7. Robinson Cano (2B)
  8. Jorge Posada (C)
  9. Doug Meintkiewicz (1B platoon)
  10. Melky Cabrera (Backup outfielder)
  11. Andy Phillips/Josh Phelps (1B platoon)
  12. Miguel Cairo (Utility infielder)
  13. Wil Nieves/Raul Chavez (Backup catcher)
Starting Rotation
  1. Chien-Ming Wang
  2. Andy Pettitte
  3. Mike Mussina
  4. Kei Igawa
  5. Pavano/Karstens/Rasner/Hughes/Sanchez/Clemens? - depending on who pitches and how they perform at spring training, there could be a slight shift in rotation spots. Obviously if Clemens were to come to NY, he wouldn't be slotted at #5
Bullpen (not in any specific order)
  1. Britton
  2. Bruney
  3. Proctor
  4. Farnsworth
  5. Vizcaino
  6. Myers
  7. Mo
That fills all 25 roster spots. As you can see, no room for Bernie. My guess is that the platoon at first is his only chance. Though the New York Post has suggested (albeit a small chance of it happening) that other chances include Cairo being the right-handed platoon/utility infielder alongside Doug, or Melky being traded. I have mixed feelings about the two suggestions.
